20th Jun (Fri. eve.)            fire            At the dwelling-house of Mr. E. Tregaskis, West-street, Penryn, a fire was discovered on Friday evening. Alarm
                                                                   being raised, P.C. Bennett, who was off duty but happened to be near the place with several others, hastened
                                                                   to the spot and succeeded, after much damage had been done, in getting the fire under. Had it not been for
                                                                   prompt action the house and its contents would have been totally destroyed.                                                   WB
23rd Jun (Thursday)     cruelty           At Falmouth Town-hall - Robert Treneer, market gardener, Penryn, was summoned for torturing a horse by working
                                                                   it in an unfit state. Notwithstanding the evidence of Mr. E.R. Smythe, M.R.C.V.S., that the wound complained of
                                                                   was a healthy one and did not cause the animal any irritation, and that the horse was perfectly fit for work,
                                                                   the Bench considered the case proved, and fined the defendant 1s. and 14s. 6d. Costs, or seven days.             WB
